Hello, my name is Marisa and I am the owner of Divine You Yoga.
Yoga Teacher
Health and wellbeing and its strong connection with how it influences what we feel and think has always been a deep interest of mine. Having practiced more of the physical side of yoga and various other fitness regimes in my twenties, I decided to delve deeper in my thirties. I wanted to understand more about how this ancient practice of Yoga with its bountiful array of methods and tools for the body, mind and soul, could help me to live with a greater sense of peace and understanding, especially now as a mother of three young boys! So I set off on a crazy adventure, learning and discovering more about who I am and my purpose. I discovered that it is a long journey, and wisdom is only gained through learning with experience. So I continue as I live each day, day by d
Pilates Instructor
My passion for Pilates also came during this investigative time, as I began to learn more about the body and how much we really can affect and change our bodies and our minds, if we have the right tools. Pilates provides fantastic methods to enhance our daily function and our posture.
For me, guiding Yoga and Pilates classes is a creative process, as much as it is a time and space to move and explore our inner workings.
Reiki Practitioner
Reiki is the thread that ties all of what I offer. It is the conduit of life that integrates and fuels all and me. I wish to lengthen this thread and transfer its ancient and infinite energy to all those that seek it.
And a little more...always and forever a student of life foremost, having worked as an environmental engineer before crossing over to where I am today, I have felt compelled to learn more, and have gone back to studying. Following my heart and the why, I am now a student of Osteopathy at RMIT University. So, here is to the next six years of self discovery in a different way! I hope to bring this learning to my offerings, sharing my new knowledge and insights.

It is an ancient, yet still relevant way of using our mind and body to regain and maintain peace and balance after afflictions and conflicts have made their way in. The practice of Yoga is the constant bringing back of the peaceful mind and steady body. Yoga nurtures your highest energy, your spirit; your inner light.
The ancient philosophy of Yoga has many different methods and approaches on how to live in peace and balance. Some of these methods include the practice of Hatha Yoga (physical movement and breathing techniques) and yogic meditation.
Divine You Yoga offers Hatha Yoga and yogic mediation practice for those wanting to begin a personal practice or for those already with an established practice.

Yoga practice is a fun and playful time for children to do some gentle and dynamic movements with their friends, supporting gross and fine motor skill development. Breathing and mindfulness techniques are also incorporated to encourage connection and relaxation. Most importantly there is lots of time for children to interact, move, sing and express themselves during a class.

This is the time in our lives when Yoga and Pilates can be used as a method to calm and restore the nervous system and help prolong the steadiness and strength of the body and ease of breath, in order to support the everyday activities.
Divine You Yoga draws on many forms of techniques and variations of postures, to support movement in order to create a style of Hatha Yoga and Pilates practice for the wise body.

The practice of yogic meditation provides a way to allow the mind to become introspective and contemplative. By doing so, one can discover deeper levels of their self and refresh the mind, so that life can be experienced with more vitality!
There are many different tools to practice yogic meditation but for the most part, the overall approach is to let the mind be, by simply observing the mind and getting to know it well, with time a gradual sense of ease will emerge where stillness and internal silence is what is left 'to be'.
The practice of yogic meditation includes withdrawing the senses (Pratyahara), developing concentration (Dharana), and obtaining pure awarness, the silent and peaceful observer (Dhyana)

'Nidra' in the ancient language of Sanskrit means 'sleep'. The practice of Yoga Nidra unites the deeper levels of our subconscious with our conscious state, whilst still alert.
Yoga Nidra is experienced in a lying down position (a well-supported armchair can also be used) whilst being guided through a series of breathing exercises and simple instructions. Some of these instructions include awareness of parts of the body, feelings and sensations and visual imagery to help withdraw consciousness from the outside world to the internal world. This method allows tension from the physical body and conscious mental workings to relax and drift into the background of awareness, so that one can begin to recognise their deeper levels of being.
Divine You Yoga includes meditation techniques in all of its classes. Yoga Nidra is offered as a separate class in order to experience the full benefits of this method.

Nada Yoga is an ancient method of practicing meditation through sounds. 'Nada' in Sanskrit means 'sound' and defines the primal vibration present in all. Sound as vibration can be found in all forms, from gross to subtle, from external to internal, from psychic to ethereal. Nada Yoga is practiced by gradually progressing sound awareness from the external to internal, in order to help still our mental workings and direct our awareness inwards. There are various levels of yogic sound perception, one of which is 'Barkhari' or, that is audible. The practice of Nada Yoga in this way can include singing bowls and by chanting mantras or syllables such as 'om'.
A slow and mindful practice intended to dive deep into supported postures. Giving time for the body to create space, in the body and mind.
"Thank you personally for the yoga sessions you held in Ivanhoe Library from September to December this year. It was a pleasure to have you as a volunteer tutor and your approach throughout was completely professional. We had very good feedback from members of the public about the quality of your teaching and the way you addressed any health concerns."
Alan Thompson, Community Coordinator, December 2019
"U3A Banyule is very appreciative of Marisa’s generosity in offering a six-week course of Yoga Nidra – Gentle Flow classes, as a volunteer tutor in November/December 2019. Our members can range in age from 55 to 90 years and have varying health challenges. The class introduced our members to the practice of meditation which members reported as producing a beautiful calming effect. A gentler, less demanding form of yoga suited members who had undergone knee replacements. Thank you Marisa and you are welcome back anytime!"
